Introduction to This Blog

In this blog, I will talk about diversity in gaming as the name suggest. Diversity is not limited to race but will contain gender and other factors as well that make up the gaming industry. I myself am a gamer and the inner workings of how the gaming industry works, and how it has worked have interested me in the past. I don't plan to focus on anything specific as of right now but in the future, I might change what I talk about depending on what is big and relevant at the time. A current hot topic in the United States is the argument that violent video games cause people to act violently. I would like to talk about this more in my next post but I haven't done the research to correctly make an argument. As reports came out that Grand Theft Auto 5, commonly known as GTA 5, has become one of the most sold media content in the world, selling 95 million copies since its release in 2013 it really brings up what kind of people are not only playing GTA 5 but are playing video games in general. The GTA series is considered one of the most well-known series next to the likes of the Call of Duty series. This consistent popularity can give us a window to see what kind of people, race, gender, etc. play video games and observe how diverse the community is currently. Recently there was a resurgence of players in GTA because of the allowance of mods and custom servers. These custom servers brought to life a seemingly dying community of role-players who moved from the ever-buggy game Arma 3. Gaming as a Tool for Shooters

An everliving topic in America is the debate about violence in video games. This time around though the topic isn't mainly about how video games are causing violence but how they are also an avenue for training in being able to use guns. An article was written for CNN by Jeremy Bailenson talking about how virtual reality games, commonly known as VR games, could be and have been used to train a potential mass shooter on the inner workings of a gun. These methods are absurd when considered how much it would cost to purchase VR equipment that could properly simulate a real gun. If a potential shooter truly wanted to practice, or have anything related to guns, they could easily buy paintball or airsoft rifles online that simulate a real gun much more effectively.
